Want to get a talent passport to move into wage portage? The talent passport is a multi-year residence permit that lets foreign consultants work in France while keeping the same benefits as a French ported consultant. That said, specific conditions apply depending on the beneficiary's profile, along with minimum salary thresholds required to obtain the permit. That's why Weepo breaks down everything you need to know about the talent passport in wage portage: conditions, benefits, and the steps to follow.

What are the conditions for a talent passport in wage portage?

General conditions

Eligibility depends on which talent passport fits your profile and professional project. In wage portage, the residence permit most often sought is the "highly qualified employee" talent passport, also known as the EU Blue Card. To get it, several conditions must be met:

  • Hold at least a bachelor's-level degree (3 years of higher education) or 5 years of professional experience;
  • Sign an employment contract of at least one year with the portage company;
  • Earn a minimum annual gross salary set by the French administration.

Depending on the situation, some consultants may instead qualify under the "qualified employee" talent passport, typically after earning a master's degree in France.

Minimum daily rate details

There are two types of talent passport, each with a different minimum daily rate:

  • The "qualified employee" passport: for professionals who earned a master's degree in France. To qualify, you need an annual gross salary above 39,582 €, roughly a minimum daily rate equivalent of about 300 € excl. tax.
  • The "highly qualified employee, EU Blue Card" passport: for holders of at least a three-year higher education degree, or five years of equivalent professional experience. To qualify, you need an annual gross salary above 59,373 €, roughly a daily rate equivalent of about 455 € excl. tax.

Thresholds updated per the decree of August 21, 2025 on reference salaries for the talent passport, in effect for 2026 (Légifrance). The daily rate equivalents are indicative: each portage company applies its own conversion method.

How do you apply for a talent passport?

Procedure based on your place of residence

The talent passport application process depends on where you live.

If you live abroad, your application must be filed with the French consulate in your country of residence. For a stay under 12 months, the consulate issues a long-stay visa marked "talent passport," to be validated online within 3 months of your arrival. For a stay of a year or more, a 3-month long-stay "talent passport" visa is granted, after which you must apply for your residence card online.

If you already live in France, the process runs online via Service Public, filed no earlier than 4 months and no later than 2 months before your current residence document expires. The card is then issued by the prefecture or sub-prefecture of your place of residence, usually within 30 days.

💡 Good to know: if the administration doesn't respond, you can still file an administrative appeal within 2 months.
